Florida stranger saves 6-year-old boy from drowning with quick response

A heart-stopping moment was captured on surveillance video in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as a 6-year-old boy named Oscar fell into a pool and began to drown. The video shows Oscar attempting to jump onto a pool float, only to lose his balance and plunge into the water. The adult with him starts screaming for help as Oscar struggles to stay afloat.
Luckily, a stranger named Roque Ivan Ocampo was passing by and heard the commotion. Without hesitation, Ocampo rushed to the pool and sprang into action. He quickly removed his shoes and dove into the water to rescue Oscar.
In the video, Ocampo is seen pulling Oscar to the surface and towards the ladder. With the help of another bystander, they managed to get the young boy out of the water. During a press conference, Ocampo revealed that Oscar was not breathing when he pulled him out of the pool.
“I started doing CPR. The kid wasn’t breathing, but I kept at it until he started breathing again,” Ocampo recounted. Thanks to his quick thinking and life-saving actions, Oscar was able to survive the terrifying ordeal.
Police body cam footage captured the moment officers arrived on the scene to find Oscar breathing. They quickly took over and transferred him to the paramedics for further medical attention. Oscar was later carried to EMS and made a full recovery, all thanks to Ocampo’s heroic intervention.
In a humble statement to the media, Ocampo downplayed his actions, stating, “I don’t feel like a hero. I just did what I had to do. I feel good. I’m blessed to be able to help this kid.”
