Former All-Pro Chad ‘Ochocinco’ Johnson says he used to soak ankles in teammates’ urine to stay healthy
Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, the former NFL wide receiver known for his flashy personality and on-field antics, recently shared a bizarre secret to keeping his ankles healthy during his career. In a podcast interview on “7PM in Brooklyn,” Johnson revealed that he would soak his ankles in warm urine from his teammates as a home remedy for ankle sprains.
Despite the unconventional nature of his remedy, Johnson claimed that it was effective in preventing injuries and keeping him on the field. He mentioned that he would collect warm urine from his teammates, heat it up, and soak his ankles in it for 30 minutes at a time. Johnson credited his grandmother for passing down the secret sauce and emphasized that there was no scientific basis for the practice.
In the podcast, Johnson nonchalantly recalled how he would convince his teammates to help him with the process. He described a scenario where he would ask his teammates to drink water simultaneously during team meetings so that they could all contribute to the urine collection in a bucket in the bathroom. This unique approach to healing his ankles may have raised some eyebrows, but Johnson attributed his durability and lack of major injuries to these unconventional methods.
As a six-time Pro Bowler with the Cincinnati Bengals, Johnson had an impressive career with seven 1,000-yard seasons and retired with impressive stats, including 766 catches, 11,059 yards, and 67 touchdowns. Despite his accomplishments on the field, Johnson has yet to receive the call to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
While Johnson’s urine-soaking remedy may not be for everyone, it certainly adds an interesting chapter to his larger-than-life persona. His willingness to share these unconventional practices only adds to the mystique and legend of “Ochocinco” in the world of professional football.
