Former Blue Jays outfielder Kevin Pillar announces retirement after 13 MLB seasons

Kevin Pillar, the former Toronto Blue Jays centre-fielder, has officially announced his retirement from Major League Baseball after a successful 13-season career. Pillar, who was known for his incredible defensive skills and highlight-reel catches, earned the nickname “Superman” from fans and teammates alike.
During his seven seasons with the Blue Jays from 2013 to 2019, Pillar became a fan favourite for his outstanding performance on the field. He hit 44 home runs and drove in 231 RBIs in 695 games, solidifying his reputation as a key player for the team. His ability to make spectacular catches to rob opposing teams of home runs endeared him to fans and earned him a special place in Blue Jays history.
After being traded to the San Francisco Giants in 2019, Pillar continued to showcase his talents as he moved through various teams in the league. He had stints with the Boston Red Sox, Colorado Rockies, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers, Atlanta Braves, Chicago White Sox, Los Angeles Angels, and Texas Rangers from 2020 to 2025. Despite initially planning to retire after the 2024 season, Pillar decided to continue playing and signed a minor-league deal with the Rangers for the current season. Although he made the MLB club out of spring training, he was designated for assignment on May 31.
