Former ESPN personality Sage Steele denies Trump press secretary rumors

Sage Steele, the veteran sportscaster who is best known for her tenure at ESPN, has shut down rumors that she is vying to be the press secretary in the new Trump administration. Steele, who has been a public supporter of President-elect Donald Trump, took to social media to label the murmurs as “fake news.”

Despite reports from Axios suggesting that Steele, along with other notable figures such as CNN contributor Scott Jennings and Republican National Committee spokesperson Elizabeth Pipko, are in the running for the coveted role of press secretary, Steele denied any interest in the position. In a tweet, she clarified, “Not sure how these rumors began about me ‘vying’ to be Press Secretary, but it’s definitely fake news! I haven’t had a single conversation with anyone about that job, and have no desire to do so!”

Steele, who left ESPN in 2023 after 15 years with the network, has been vocal about her support for Trump. She joined his campaign trail last month, appearing at an event in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. However, she made it clear that she has no intentions of pursuing the role of press secretary.

In a statement, Steele expressed her gratitude for her time with Trump’s campaign team, stating, “It was the honor of a lifetime to be a small part of @TeamTrump during the campaign – something I NEVER imagined – but I wholeheartedly believe in @realDonaldTrump @JDVance & am excited to find ways to continue to serve.”

Steele’s departure from ESPN in 2023 was marked by a lawsuit against the network, in which she alleged that her free speech rights were violated. The lawsuit was settled, and she left the network in August of the same year to exercise her first amendment rights more freely.

Since leaving ESPN, Steele has found opportunities in podcasting, becoming the first podcast host on Bill Maher’s Club Random Studios network. As rumors swirl about the potential candidates for the position of press secretary in the new Trump administration, Steele remains focused on her next chapter and continuing to serve in different capacities.

While names like Karoline Leavitt and Jason Miller are being floated as potential press secretaries, Steele has made it clear that she is not interested in the role. With her unwavering support for Trump and her commitment to speaking her mind, Steele is poised to carve out a new path for herself in the world of media and public service.
