Former Princeton football player Tiger Bech killed in New Orleans attack
Wednesday’s tragic events in New Orleans have left the community in mourning after a violent attack claimed the lives of at least 10 people, including former Princeton football player Tiger Bech. Bech, a beloved New Orleans native, made a name for himself on the gridiron as an All-Ivy League kick returner during his time at Princeton from 2016 to 2018. Over the course of his three-year career, Bech amassed an impressive stat line, catching 53 passes for 825 yards and scoring three touchdowns.
After graduating from Princeton in 2021, Bech transitioned into a career in finance, working as a stockbroker in New York City. However, he returned to his hometown of Louisiana to celebrate the holidays with his loved ones. Tragically, Bech’s life was cut short in the senseless act of violence that unfolded on Wednesday.
Among those closest to Bech is his younger brother, Jack Bech, a talented wide receiver for TCU. Jack took to social media to pay tribute to his brother, expressing his love and admiration for Tiger. In a heartfelt message, Jack vowed to carry on his brother’s legacy and honor his memory in everything he does.
The perpetrator behind the deadly attack has been identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar by the FBI. The assailant drove into a crowd at a New Year’s celebration in New Orleans, causing devastation and chaos. In addition to the lives lost, dozens were injured in the horrific incident.
As the community grapples with the aftermath of this tragedy, the 2025 Sugar Bowl at the New Orleans Superdome has been postponed. The FBI is actively investigating the suspect’s potential ties to terrorist organizations, as an ISIS flag was discovered in the truck used in the attack. Furthermore, weapons and a possible improvised explosive device (IED) were found in the suspect’s vehicle, with additional potential IEDs located in the French Quarter.
