Former St. FX student found guilty on 2 charges of sexual assault

A former football player for St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, has been found guilty of two counts of sexual assault. Omogbolahan (Teddy) Jegede, who played football at the university in 2019, was convicted of the offenses, which date back to incidents in 2022 and 2023.
The investigation into Jegede began in March of 2023 when a woman reported to the RCMP that she had been assaulted. Subsequently, three more women came forward with similar allegations. Jegede initially faced four charges, but two of those were withdrawn on March 4.
The convictions relate to separate assaults on different victims. One assault took place in September 2022, while the second occurred in February 2023. A jury in Antigonish found Jegede guilty on Friday, and he is scheduled to be sentenced in October.
The university where Jegede played football did not respond to a request for comment on the matter. The case has sparked concerns and discussions about the safety and protection of students on campus, as well as the handling of such serious allegations within educational institutions.
This development serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing and preventing sexual assault in all settings, including sports teams and universities. It is crucial for authorities to take swift and appropriate action in response to reports of misconduct and to support survivors in seeking justice.
With files from Blair Rhodes, the case of Jegede highlights the ongoing efforts to address issues of sexual assault and misconduct in society, emphasizing the need for accountability and support for survivors.
