Fox News Poll: Voters are split on Trump policies

After 60 days in office and over 90 executive orders, a recent Fox News Poll reveals a divided response from voters on President Donald Trump’s agenda. The most popular policy among voters is the ban on transgender women from women’s sports, with a significant 38-point margin in favor (68% favor, 30% oppose). This executive order, titled “Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports,” was signed by Trump on February 5.

In addition to the ban on transgender women in sports, other policies that received strong support from voters include making English the official language of the U.S. (66% favor, 32% oppose), deporting illegal immigrants (63%-35%), acknowledging only two genders (54%-44%), and increasing drilling and oil production (53%-44%). However, opinions were more divided on reducing the number of federal employees (46% favor, 51% oppose) and ending diversity, equity, and inclusion programs (45%-51%).

On the other hand, some of Trump’s proposals were met with less enthusiasm from voters. These include taking over the Panama Canal (39% favor, 57% oppose), closing the Department of Education (32%-65%), renaming the Gulf of Mexico (31%-67%), and taking over Greenland (26%-70%).

Republican pollster Daron Shaw, who conducts Fox News surveys with Democrat Chris Anderson, commented on the findings, stating that while Trump’s more ambitious ideas may lack public support, there is substantial backing for his specific cultural and social policies across various constituencies.

Partisan differences were evident in the survey results, with Democrats mostly opposing Trump’s policies while Republicans were supportive. However, certain policies such as banning transgender women from sports, making English the official language, and deporting illegal immigrants resonated with both sides.

Despite the support for deporting illegal immigrants, a majority of voters believe that any child born to an illegal immigrant in the U.S. should automatically become a citizen. This view is particularly strong among Democrats (89%) and Independents (71%), with minority support from Republicans (44%).

Attitudes towards closing the Department of Education varied significantly along party lines, with most Democrats (92%) and Independents (81%) opposing the idea, while a majority of Republicans (63%) favored it.

The survey also highlighted concerns among voters about the long-term impact of Trump’s executive actions on the country’s system of checks and balances. Additionally, tariffs were viewed negatively, with voters expressing concerns about their impact on the economy and product prices. Despite the perception of wasteful government spending, many voters rated Trump’s handling of the issue negatively and expressed worries about the lack of planning in budget cuts.

Overall, the Fox News Poll conducted in March 2025 provides insights into the public’s perception of President Trump’s agenda and the different policy priorities among voters.
