Friends of witness in case of missing girl Sudiksha Konanki say he is supported

A key witness in the case of missing University of Pittsburgh student Sudiksha Konanki has garnered strong support from his community, as evidenced by a statement released by friends of his family on Sunday evening.

Konanki, a 20-year-old Virginia resident, went missing while walking on the beach outside the Riu Republica Resort in Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic in the early hours of March 6, according to authorities. The only known eyewitness in the case, 22-year-old Joshua Riibe from Iowa, has been cooperating with authorities from various agencies as they work to unravel the mystery of Konanki’s disappearance. Riibe was the last person seen with Konanki while they were both staying at the resort with friends for spring break.

Friends of the Riibe family issued a statement affirming their unwavering support for Riibe, who has been deemed a crucial figure in the missing person investigation. It is important to note that Riibe has not been accused of any wrongdoing or labeled as a suspect in the case.

“The Rock Rapids community stands firmly behind Joshua Riibe and his family,” the statement, released by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office on behalf of Riibe’s friends, declared. “The Riibe family relocated to town in 2015 and has actively participated in various school and community events and organizations. They are respected and cherished members of the community.”

“Josh exhibits a steadfast commitment to his faith and demonstrates genuine kindness towards others,” the statement continued. “He embodies the values of compassion, respect, and integrity that are core to our church and our community.”

The community has been called upon to honor these priorities.

Riibe, accompanied by his parents, is currently in the Dominican Republic assisting with the investigation. Authorities recently disclosed that his passport has been confiscated as part of the ongoing inquiry.

The search for Sudiksha Konanki continues, with local authorities in Punta Cana diligently scouring the area for any leads. The Riibe family and their community remain steadfast in their support for Joshua Riibe as he navigates through this challenging ordeal.
