From CDC to labor secretary: See Trump’s top picks for Cabinet roles

As President-elect Trump continues to assemble his Cabinet for America’s 47th President, a clearer picture has emerged of who will serve in key positions. With the confirmation process set to begin in January, Trump has chosen a number of top supporters who played crucial roles in his election campaign.

One of the key picks announced on Friday evening was Scott Bessent for the role of Treasury Secretary. Bessent, founder of Key Square Group, is a respected international investor and economic strategist. Trump praised him as a key economic policy adviser and fundraiser for the campaign. Bessent has advocated for economic policies such as lower taxes, spending restraint, and deregulation.

Another important selection made by Trump was Russ Vought as the head of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). Vought previously served in this role during Trump’s first term and was praised for his efforts in cutting regulations and promoting economic growth. He is known for his conservative principles and close alliance with Trump.

Scott Turner, who was nominated as the Secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development, has a background in both professional football and public service. Turner previously served as the executive director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council, where he played a key role in economic development initiatives. Trump highlighted Turner’s success in overseeing federal agencies and attracting billions of dollars in private investment to Opportunity Zones.

Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer was chosen by Trump to lead the Department of Labor. Chavez-DeRemer, a Republican from Oregon, is a strong advocate for American workers and has worked closely with both businesses and labor organizations. Her candidacy was backed by the Teamsters union.

Dr. Dave Weldon, a former congressman from Florida, was selected by Trump to head the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Trump praised Weldon’s medical expertise and conservative leadership on fiscal and social issues. Weldon’s appointment is expected to restore trust and transparency to the CDC.

Dr. Marty Makary, a pancreatic surgeon at Johns Hopkins University, was nominated by Trump as the commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration. Trump emphasized the need for the FDA to regain the trust of Americans and refocus on its regulatory responsibilities. Makary is known for his expertise in health policy and surgical oncology.

Dr. Janette Nesheiwat, a double board-certified medical doctor, was chosen by Trump to serve as the nation’s next Surgeon General. Trump praised Nesheiwat’s commitment to preventative medicine and public health, highlighting her experience in saving and treating American lives.

Sebastian Gorka, a former White House adviser, will serve as deputy assistant to the president and senior director for counterterrorism. Gorka has been a staunch advocate for the America First agenda and the MAGA movement. Alex Wong, who previously served in the State Department, will return to the administration as the Assistant to the President and Principal Deputy National Security Advisor.

As Trump finalizes his Cabinet picks, the Senate confirmation process will soon begin, with a Republican majority expected to make the process smoother. These key appointments reflect Trump’s commitment to assembling a team of experienced and dedicated individuals to lead the country forward.
