Frustrated couple allegedly assaults staff for not letting them board Cancún flight

A Florida couple’s dream vacation turned into a nightmare when they were arrested for assaulting airport employees at Miami International Airport. Rafael Seirafe-Novaes, 40, and Beatriz Rapoport De Campos Maia, 29, were denied boarding access to their flight to Cancún after arriving late. The couple allegedly tried to force their way onto the plane, ignoring warnings and signs before pushing through staff onto the restricted jet bridge.
Video footage captured the chaotic scene as Seirafe-Novaes pushed two victims, while Maia reportedly pushed and threw coffee at the airline employees. Law enforcement officers eventually arrived at the gate and escorted Seirafe-Novaes in handcuffs to a police car on the tarmac.
American Airlines confirmed the incident and stated that acts of violence are not tolerated. The airline is cooperating with authorities in their investigation. The flight to Cancún was delayed due to the altercation but eventually departed without the couple, arriving at its destination nearly half an hour late.
Seirafe-Novaes was charged with resisting an officer without violence and trespassing, while Maia faces two counts of battery and trespassing. The couple posted bond for their release the following day. It is unclear if they will be banned from future American Airlines flights.
According to the Department of Justice, committing acts of intentional violence in an international airport is a federal crime punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
This incident serves as a reminder of the consequences of disruptive behavior at airports and the importance of following airline policies and regulations. Travelers should always arrive early for their flights to avoid stressful situations and ensure a smooth travel experience.
