Man Arrested After Nine Months on the Run for Fatal Crash in Manitoba

A man who had been evading Canadian authorities for over nine months following a tragic crash that took the lives of a mother and daughter in Manitoba has been apprehended at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport.

Navjeet Singh, 25, Faces Charges

Navjeet Singh, a 25-year-old from Brampton, Ontario, was wanted since November for two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and one count of obstructing a police officer. He was taken into custody on Thursday morning upon his arrival in Canada on an Ethiopian Airlines flight, according to Manitoba RCMP.

The Fatal Crash

Authorities allege that Singh drove a semi-trailer truck through a stop sign on Highway 201, colliding with an SUV driven by Sara Unger, 35, near the town of Altona. Tragically, Sara Unger was pronounced dead at the scene, while her 8-year-old daughter, Alexa, succumbed to her injuries after being airlifted to the hospital.

Gratitude for Assistance

Pembina Valley RCMP Cpl. Jamie Sokolosky expressed gratitude for the collaborative efforts of various law enforcement agencies in locating and apprehending Singh. The support from Canada Border Services Agency officers, Peel Regional Police, and Manitoba Motor Carrier Enforcement was crucial in bringing closure to the victims’ family.

Arrest and Custody

After being treated for injuries and released from the hospital following the crash, Singh managed to evade authorities in Winnipeg. A Canada-wide warrant was issued for his arrest on November 21. Singh is currently in custody and will be transported to Manitoba in the coming days to face the pending charges.
