The comprehensive wildfire prevention efforts in California are estimated to cost around $2.5 billion. These funds will be allocated towards initiatives such as controlled burns, reducing fuel in burn areas, and implementing public tracking of wildfire prevention endeavors.
The declaration of a state of emergency follows President Trump’s public criticism of Governor Newsom’s response to recent wildfires. Trump had previously accused Newsom of “gross incompetence” in managing the wildfire situations and called for his resignation in a social media post in January.
