George Glezmann sees ‘champion’s welcome’ after Taliban release

Taliban hostage George Glezmann has finally returned to the United States after more than 800 days in captivity in Afghanistan. He landed at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Friday and received a warm welcome from supporters and loved ones.

Glezmann expressed his overwhelming emotions, stating, “I feel born again. I have no words.” He also praised President Trump and thanked Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and hostage envoy Adam Boehler for their efforts in securing his release.

Accompanied by his wife Aleksandra, who had been anxiously awaiting his return, the couple shared a heartfelt reunion after being separated since Glezmann’s capture on December 5, 2022, in Kabul. Ryan Corbett, another former hostage who was released in January after nearly 900 days in Taliban captivity, also greeted Glezmann upon his arrival.

The news of Glezmann’s release was first reported by Fox News Digital on Thursday as he departed from Kabul International Airport en route to Doha, Qatar. His freedom was negotiated through direct communications between U.S. hostage envoy Adam Boehler, Qatari officials, and the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Both Glezmann and Corbett were held captive together in Afghanistan, enduring unimaginable hardship during their time in captivity. Boehler personally met with Glezmann in Kabul before accompanying him on the flight to Joint Base Andrews.

The successful negotiation and safe return of George Glezmann mark a significant victory in the ongoing efforts to secure the release of American hostages held abroad. The tireless dedication of government officials, diplomats, and allies in facilitating such operations highlights the importance of international cooperation in addressing complex diplomatic challenges.
