Georgia man arrested for allegedly trying to kidnap child in Walmart

A Georgia mother had a terrifying experience at a Walmart in Acworth when a man allegedly tried to grab her young son. Caroline Miller was shopping with her 4-year-old daughter and 2-year-old son when their motorized wheelchair broke down in the pharmacy aisle. That’s when 56-year-old Mahendra Patel approached them, asking for help finding Tylenol.

According to Miller, when she pointed out where the Tylenol was, Patel reached down, put his hands on her son, Jude, and tried to grab him out of her lap. A struggle ensued, with Miller managing to break away with her son as Patel held onto the child. She described it as a “tug-of-war” situation. After the altercation, Patel walked away, bought the Tylenol, and left the store. Fortunately, the child was unharmed.

Authorities were able to identify Patel through witness statements and surveillance footage. Three days later, he was arrested and charged with kidnapping, simple assault, and simple battery. He is currently being held without bond at the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office.

Walmart issued a statement emphasizing the safety of their customers and associates as a top priority. They are cooperating with the police in the ongoing investigation. Despite the frightening incident, Miller is grateful that her children are safe and emphasizes the importance of being prepared for potentially dangerous situations.
