Georgia’s Kirby Smart calls out CFP selection committee after win over Tennessee

Georgia Bulldogs Make Strong Case for College Football Playoff with Win Over Tennessee
Georgia Bulldogs made a convincing case for their spot in the College Football Playoff with a 31-17 victory over Tennessee on Saturday. Head coach Kirby Smart had a clear message for the selection committee after the game.
In the previous rankings, Georgia was sitting at No. 12, just on the outside looking in on the playoff bracket. This ranking came after a tough loss to Ole Miss the week before. On the other hand, Tennessee was ranked No. 7 and was in a good position to make the playoff.
However, Georgia’s impressive win over Tennessee is likely to shake up the rankings.
“I don’t know what they’re looking for. I really don’t,” Smart expressed his frustration with the committee in an interview with ESPN. “I wish they could really define the criteria. I wish they could do the eyeball test where they come down here and look at the people we’re playing against and look at them.”
Smart emphasized that the committee may not fully understand the challenges faced by Georgia in their recent games, including tough matchups against strong opponents like Ole Miss.
ESPN reported that committee chairman Warde Manuel pointed to Georgia’s turnovers and offensive struggles as reasons for their drop in the rankings. However, Georgia showcased a strong performance against Tennessee, with 453 total yards and no turnovers.
Looking ahead, Georgia has two games remaining in the regular season against UMass and Georgia Tech. A third loss would likely extinguish their playoff hopes.
Georgia’s 8-2 record demonstrates their competitiveness, and they will be aiming to finish the season strong to solidify their spot in the playoff bracket.
