GOP delegation provides inside look at controversial El Salvador prison housing U.S. deportees

Freshman Congressman Riley Moore, a Republican from West Virginia, recently visited the controversial Salvadoran mega-prison known as the Terrorist Confinement Center (CECOT). After his visit, he expressed his unwavering support for President Trump’s efforts to secure the U.S. from criminal illegal aliens.

CECOT has been at the center of a national controversy as the Trump administration has been sending the “worst of the worst” migrant gang members to the facility. Some Democrats have accused President Trump of “kidnapping” people for deportation. However, Moore’s visit to CECOT only solidified his determination to back the president’s initiatives.

During his visit, Moore came face to face with some of El Salvador’s most brutal criminals, including murderers, rapists, pedophiles, and terrorists. He also encountered extremely violent criminals who had recently been deported from the U.S. The congressman emphasized the dangerous nature of these individuals, many of whom openly admitted to committing heinous crimes.

Accompanied by a congressional delegation led by House Ways and Means Committee Chair Jason Smith, Moore toured the prison and spoke with several inmates. He highlighted the fact that only a few hundred out of approximately 14,000 inmates in CECOT were deported from the United States, dispelling misconceptions about the facility being a “death camp” for deportees.

Moore also spoke with two deportees from the U.S. who had been sent back to El Salvador after being involved in criminal activities, including murder. Despite the austere conditions in the prison, Moore noted that the impact of CECOT and Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele’s crackdown on gang crime has been transformative for the country.

In conversations with ordinary people in San Salvador, Moore learned about the terror and control exerted by gangs in the past, and how Bukele’s actions have restored a sense of security and normalcy to their lives. This firsthand experience reinforced Moore’s belief in the necessity of strong measures to combat gang terrorism.

As Moore reflected on the tragic cycle of violence perpetuated by gangs, he emphasized the importance of security as the foundation for a functioning society. Without security, he argued, economic opportunities, civil society, and justice are all compromised. Moore’s visit to CECOT has only strengthened his resolve to support President Trump’s efforts to protect the U.S. from criminal elements.

In conclusion, Moore’s visit to CECOT provided him with a firsthand look at the realities of gang violence and the impact of strong law enforcement measures. His experience underscored the importance of security in maintaining the stability and prosperity of a nation, reinforcing his commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at securing the U.S. from criminal illegal aliens.
