GOP lawmakers reveal a heightened legislative focus against ‘irreversible’ gender surgery on minors

Republicans in Congress are ramping up their efforts to take control of all branches next year, with a particular focus on passing legislation targeting transgender medical procedures on minors. A recent Senate panel discussion highlighted key legislative priorities, including bans on biological males competing in women’s sports, restrictions on gender-related surgeries for minors, and ending taxpayer funding for such procedures for children. The panel, hosted by Sen. Roger Marshall, R-Kan., featured Terry Schilling, president of the American Principles Project (APP), who interviewed Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala., Rep. Mary Miller, R-Ill., and Paula Scanlan, a swimmer who shared her experience competing alongside transgender athlete Lia Thomas at the University of Pennsylvania.

Schilling emphasized the importance of protecting children in his opening remarks, stating that the focus of the movement is to safeguard America’s youth. Marshall, a former medical doctor, discussed his efforts to combat what he referred to as the “gender industrial complex,” highlighting the irreversible harm being done to young children through gender-related surgeries.

Tuberville, who introduced the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act of 2023, expressed frustration with the lack of support from Democrats on the issue. However, he remained optimistic about Republicans’ ability to advance the legislation in the next Congress, where they are expected to hold a majority in the Senate.

During the discussion, Scanlan shared her experience of competing alongside Lia Thomas, a transgender athlete, revealing the challenges she faced in having to change in the locker room with a biological male. Marshall announced plans to introduce the Safeguarding the Overall Protection of Minors Act (STOP), which aims to penalize individuals who perform surgeries or provide medication to minors for gender-related purposes.

A recent report by the APP, covered by Fox News Digital, highlighted the growing revenues from transgender drugs and surgeries, with estimates exceeding $4.4 billion in 2023 and projected to reach $7.8 billion by 2030. The data underscores the increasing prevalence of these procedures and the need for legislative action to protect minors from irreversible harm.

As Republicans gear up for a trifecta of control in Congress, their focus on legislation targeting transgender medical procedures on minors reflects a commitment to safeguarding the well-being of children and ensuring ethical healthcare practices. The upcoming legislative session promises to be a pivotal moment in the ongoing debate over transgender rights and medical interventions, with Republicans taking a proactive stance on this contentious issue.
