Trump vows to increase trade with India, Pakistan after praising ceasefire agreement: ‘A job well done!’

President Donald Trump made a bold promise on Saturday to increase trade with both India and Pakistan after the two nations agreed to a ceasefire to end the conflict between them. In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated, “While not even discussed, I am going to increase trade, substantially, with both of these great Nations.” He also expressed his willingness to work towards finding a solution for the long-standing issue of Kashmir, stating, “Additionally, I will work with you both to see if, after a ‘thousand years,’ a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir. God Bless the leadership of India and Pakistan on a job well done!!!”

The ceasefire, which came after several days of intense fighting that resulted in dozens of casualties, was a result of diplomatic efforts and pressure from the U.S. However, there were reports of artillery fire in Indian Kashmir shortly after the agreement was reached. Attacks were also reported in cities near the border, with blackout conditions reminiscent of the previous two evenings.

The conflict escalated following an attack on Hindus in Pahalgam in Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 men. Both India and Pakistan lay claim to part of Kashmir, leading to ongoing tensions between the two nations.

Late on Saturday, India accused Pakistan of violating the ceasefire agreement and instructed its armed forces to respond strongly to any continued firings. Pakistan, on the other hand, blamed India for violating the truce but reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace.

Despite some overnight fighting and explosions, the situation had calmed down on both sides of the border by Sunday morning. Trump commended the leadership of both countries for their decision to halt the aggression, stating, “I am very proud of the strong and unwaveringly powerful leadership of India and Pakistan for having the strength, wisdom, and fortitude to fully know and understand that it was time to stop the current aggression that could have led to the death and destruction of so many.”

The ceasefire announcement was met with celebrations in Pakistan, with people taking to the streets to express their relief and joy. In the Indian border city of Amritsar, normal activities resumed as a siren sounded to signal the end of hostilities.

While there were reports of some firing in Bhimber in Pakistani Kashmir, no casualties were reported, and the situation remained relatively calm. This ceasefire marks a significant step towards peace in the region, as India and Pakistan have a history of conflict, having gone to war three times, including twice over the issue of Kashmir.

The efforts to de-escalate tensions and reach a ceasefire were praised by Trump, who emphasized the importance of dialogue and diplomacy in resolving conflicts. The world will be watching closely to see if this ceasefire holds and if further progress can be made towards lasting peace in the region.
