Grand Slam Track changes schedule for Philadelphia event

Exciting changes are on the horizon for the Grand Slam Track event in Philadelphia. Founder and commissioner Michael Johnson recently announced that the original three-day schedule for the professional track league event will be condensed to a more intense and action-packed two days of competition. The Philadelphia Slam will kick off on Saturday, May 31 and conclude on Sunday, June 1 at the historic Franklin Field.
After the resounding success of the sold-out Miami Slam, the organizers took the time to reflect on the accomplishments of the inaugural season and sought ways to enhance the Grand Slam Track experience. Johnson expressed, “We’ve always been committed to listening to our fans, athletes, and coaches, and based on valuable feedback from key stakeholders, we have decided to streamline our schedule in Philadelphia into two electrifying days of competition. We aim to be the most fan-centric and adaptable league in sports, and we believe that these changes will elevate the Grand Slam Track experience for all.”
The shift to a two-day event brings about a significant modification to the long-distance category. Previously, athletes had a day of rest between their 3,000-metre and 5,000m events, but now they will compete in a single 3,000m race in Philadelphia. As a result, the prize pool for long-distance athletes has been adjusted, with winners now taking home $50,000 US compared to the previous $100,000 prize.
The Grand Slam Track season will culminate in Los Angeles from June 27-29, offering fans and athletes alike a thrilling conclusion to the series of events. All Grand Slam Track competitions will be broadcasted live on CBCSports.ca and CBC Gem, allowing viewers to witness the exhilarating races from anywhere.
