Grandson of Robert De Niro dies at age 19

NEW YORK –

Leandro De Niro Rodriguez, a grandson of Robert De Niro, has died at the age of 19.

His mother, Drena De Niro, announced the news Monday in an Instagram post.

“I don’t know how to live without you, but I will try to carry on and spread the love and light you made me feel this way when I became your mother,” she wrote. “You were so deeply loved and appreciated and I wish only love could have saved you.”

Drena De Niro shared Leandro with artist Carlos Mare, who posted black squares with no captions on his Instagram accounts.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of my beloved grandson Leo. We are immensely grateful for everyone’s condolences. We ask for privacy to mourn our loss of Leo,” Robert De Niro said in a statement.

Further details were not immediately available. Later on Monday, De Niro’s publicist shared another statement from Drena De Niro.

“It is with immeasurable shock and sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved son Leo. We thank you for the outpouring of love and support and ask that we be given privacy at this time to process this inconsolable grief,” she said in the rack.

In response to a request for confirmation of a TMZ report that Leandro had been found in a New York apartment, the New York City Police Department wrote that “an 18-year-old man was found unconscious, unresponsive and dead at the scene by paramedics was declared”.
