‘Great meeting’: Tim Scott reveals Trump’s ‘all in’ to help GOP protect majority in 2026 midterms

Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, the newly elected chair of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, is gearing up to protect and expand the GOP majority in the Senate with the help of President-elect Trump. The senator met with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, where they discussed their plans to secure a Republican majority for the next four years.

In a social media post, Scott expressed his excitement about working with Trump to create a “generation of opportunity” and maintain the GOP’s Senate majority. After losing control of the Senate in the 2020 elections, Republicans managed to flip four Democrat-held seats in the recent election, giving them a 53-47 majority in the chamber.

Scott’s mission as the new NRSC chair is to defend the seats they currently hold and expand the map to increase their majority. He emphasized the importance of Trump’s involvement in the 2026 Senate contests, urging the former president to campaign, fundraise, and engage with voters to strengthen the party.

The 2026 electoral landscape presents opportunities for Republicans to flip seats in key battleground states such as Georgia, Michigan, New Hampshire, and Virginia, where Democratic incumbents will be up for re-election. Scott highlighted the competitiveness of these states and Trump’s performance in them as reasons for optimism.

While Republicans aim to expand their Senate majority, they will also need to defend seats in states like Maine and North Carolina. Scott expressed confidence in Senators Susan Collins and Thom Tillis, predicting their success in the upcoming election cycle.

As the NRSC chair, Scott will lead the party’s efforts to win back seats and secure a stronger majority in the Senate. He emphasized the importance of strategic decision-making in competitive Republican Senate primaries and the goal of reaching 55 seats in the chamber.

With Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand expected to lead the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, Scott and his team are prepared for a challenging but promising electoral cycle. The stage is set for a fierce battle for control of the Senate in 2026, and Scott is determined to ensure that Republicans emerge victorious.
