Great white shark spotted near Hubbards for 2nd time in a week
Swimmers at Fox Point Beach near Hubbards, N.S. had a close encounter with a great white shark for the second time in one week. Maria Maclean-Guy, a local engineering student, was snorkeling with her family when they spotted the shark. Despite the terrifying experience, they managed to safely make their way back to shore.
Last week, two scuba divers also encountered a great white shark at the same beach. However, encountering a shark while snorkeling near the surface of the water is a different experience altogether, as sharks are known for ambushing surface prey like seals from below.
Shark researcher Chris Harvey-Clark noted that the recent sightings indicate that the area is becoming a hot spot for great whites. While shark attacks are rare, it is important to take them seriously as a potential threat.
Despite the scare, Maclean-Guy and her family decided to face their fears and went for another swim later that day. It is crucial for swimmers to exercise caution and be aware of their surroundings when in waters known to be frequented by sharks.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting marine life and being vigilant while enjoying the ocean. It is always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to sharing the waters with these powerful predators.
