Greenpeace steals Macron wax statue to protest French ties with Russia

Greenpeace activists made headlines recently after they were photographed stealing a wax statue of French President Emmanuel Macron from the Grévin Museum in Paris. The act of protest was in response to the country’s business ties with Russia, with the environmental group stating that Macron does not deserve to be exhibited in a renowned cultural establishment until French contracts with Russia are terminated and a significant ecological transition is initiated on a European scale.
The activists later took the stolen statue to the Russian embassy in Paris, where they unfurled a banner denouncing the current dealings with Russia. Images captured two men carrying the wax figure of Macron through the streets of the French capital.
According to a Greenpeace spokesperson, the activists carefully planned the theft to ensure a quick operation without any confrontation with museum security. The group entered the museum as regular visitors before locating the room where the Macron statue was housed. Other activists were reportedly waiting in a getaway car outside the museum, and the group intends to return the statue at an undisclosed date.
The Grévin Museum, known for its wax figures of over 200 celebrities, described the Macron statue as one of the many immortalized personalities on display. Photos taken at the museum previously showed the Macron statue standing next to one of former President Joe Biden.
Greenpeace France director Jean-Francois Julliard emphasized that while they do not deny the political, diplomatic, and financial support of France and Europe for Ukraine, there is a need for coherence and consistency. The group believes that supporting Ukraine while importing significant amounts of gas, chemical fertilizers, and uranium is contradictory.
The act of protest by Greenpeace activists has sparked discussions about the intersection of politics, environmental issues, and activism. The incident serves as a reminder of the power of peaceful protest in raising awareness about pressing global issues.
As the story continues to unfold, it underscores the importance of holding leaders accountable for their actions and advocating for a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future.
