Greta Thunberg joins Freedom Flotilla to Gaza as Israel monitors mission

Israel has announced that it will take action to prevent the Freedom Flotilla Coalition from reaching the Gaza Strip with climate activist Greta Thunberg on board. Thunberg, a 22-year-old Swedish environmentalist, embarked on this journey aboard the Madleen along with 11 other activists to raise awareness about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

“We are doing this because, no matter what odds we are against, we have to keep trying,” Thunberg stated. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has confirmed that they are monitoring the flotilla and are prepared to respond accordingly.

Among the activists joining Thunberg on the ship are actor Liam Cunningham from “Game of Thrones” and Rima Hassan, a French member of the European Parliament of Palestinian descent who has been banned from entering Israel due to her opposition to the Israeli assault on Gaza.

Last month, a previous Freedom Flotilla Coalition ship was reportedly attacked by Israel with drones just before reaching Malta to pick up Thunberg for a similar mission. During the current voyage, Thunberg has been documenting her journey on social media, including swimming in the sea.

Thunberg emphasized the importance of speaking out against injustice, stating, “Because the moment we stop trying is when we lose our humanity. And no matter how dangerous this mission is, it’s not even near as dangerous as the silence of the entire world in the face of the livestreamed genocide.”

It remains to be seen how Israel will respond to the arrival of the flotilla in Gaza. The situation is developing, and the world is watching closely. Stay tuned for updates on this unfolding story.
