Grey Cup 2024: Prince Harry makes surprise appearance

Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, made a surprise appearance at the Grey Cup in Vancouver, stunning football fans in attendance. Dressed in a dark dress shirt and long black jacket, Prince Harry was interviewed by TSN’s James Duthie at the station’s sideline set before waving to the excited crowd and being escorted away.

Later, Prince Harry returned to the field alongside B.C. Lions owner Amar Doman and Canadian Invictus Games athlete Wenshuang Nie. Nie, a former diesel mechanic and medical officer in the Royal Canadian Navy, is gearing up to compete in wheelchair rugby, swimming, biathlon, and skeleton events at the upcoming Invictus Games in Vancouver and Whistler from Feb. 8 to 16.

During their appearance on the big screen, Prince Harry presented Doman with a black and gold Invictus Games jersey, and in return, Doman gifted him a Grey Cup 2024 jersey. As a former soldier, Prince Harry founded the Invictus Games in 2014, providing a platform for wounded, injured, or sick service personnel and veterans from around the world to showcase their athletic abilities in various sports.

The upcoming B.C. iteration of the Invictus Games will feature winter sports for the first time, including sit-skiing, sit-snowboarding, curling, biathlon, and skeleton. Over 500 athletes from 23 nations are expected to participate in the Games, building on the success of the 2017 event held in Toronto.

In preparation for the Games, Prince Harry visited Whistler’s renowned Olympic sliding track in May, where he fearlessly slid down the track on a skeleton sled, reaching speeds of up to 99 kilometres per hour. His wife, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, also accompanied him on the trip, attending training events in Whistler and a dinner in Vancouver.
