Halifax airport gets summer flights to Amsterdam as demand for European travel grows

WestJet Announces Direct Flights Between Halifax and Amsterdam for Summer Travel Season

WestJet has exciting news for Canadian travelers this summer as they announce direct flights between Halifax and Amsterdam. The travel industry in Canada has seen a growing demand for European destinations, and WestJet is stepping up to meet that demand.

Starting on May 29, WestJet will operate up to six direct flights per week between Halifax Stanfield International Airport and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. This new service to Amsterdam is just one of five direct flights to Europe that WestJet is offering out of Halifax this summer. Other European destinations include Dublin, Edinburgh, London-Gatwick, and Paris. Additionally, seasonal direct flights to Frankfurt, Zurich, and Reykjavik are also available from Halifax, with year-round flights to London-Heathrow and Saint-Pierre.

Amra Durakovic, a spokesperson for Flight Centre, has noted a significant increase in demand from Canadians wanting to travel to Europe. Factors such as the Trump administration’s tariff announcements and the weaker Canadian dollar are contributing to this trend. Durakovic mentioned that amidst uncertainty with the U.S., many Canadians are shifting their focus to other destinations, with Europe being a popular choice.

One of the reasons Amsterdam is a sought-after destination is its proximity to other European countries. Travelers can easily explore countries like Denmark, France, Spain, and the U.K. from Amsterdam. Durakovic also highlighted that cost plays a significant role in travel decisions, with 64% of respondents prioritizing cost in a recent Flight Centre survey. With more frequent flights between Canada and Europe, traveling to European destinations becomes more accessible and budget-friendly.

As summer approaches, Durakovic advises travelers to book their European trips soon. She also mentioned that the East Coast of Canada, including Halifax, is becoming a popular destination for Canadian travelers. With more tourists flocking to the region, locals might consider exploring other destinations within Canada.

Overall, WestJet’s new direct flights between Halifax and Amsterdam offer exciting opportunities for Canadian travelers looking to explore Europe this summer. With a range of European destinations to choose from, affordable travel options, and increasing tourism trends, this summer promises to be an exciting time for travel enthusiasts.
