Harris’ ‘ice princess’ demeanor, Bush’s belly-tap were key expressions at Jimmy Carter’s funeral: expert
During the 2024 campaign cycle, Americans witnessed what appeared to be no love lost between President-elect Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama. However, at former President Jimmy Carter’s funeral, the two recent presidents appeared to be enjoying each other’s company and largely ignored other dignitaries arriving around them, including Vice President Kamala Harris and President Biden.
Susan Constantine, a communication and body language expert, observed the interactions at the funeral and noted that Harris came off as “cool as could be.” She described Harris as an “Ice Princess” with a soldier-like stance and a stride of arrogance and confidence. Harris deliberately averted eye contact with Trump, displaying a sign of disdain through the tension of her facial expression.
Another attendee who appeared more muted than normal was former First Lady Laura Bush. Constantine noted that Mrs. Bush did not greet the Trumps or Obama to her left, which was unusual for her outgoing personality. However, there was one interaction that stood out – Trump’s jovial conversation and gesticulations with Barack Obama.
Constantine mentioned that Trump and Obama seemed to have a rapport, with Obama leaning towards Trump and engaging in conversation. However, there was a moment where Trump appeared to be discussing something with Obama that the former president wished was held until after the somber event.
When asked about Al Gore being the first to stand and greet Trump, Constantine explained that it showed respect and that Gore was putting politics aside. She also analyzed George W. Bush’s “belly tap” of Obama, saying it indicated a comfortable relationship between the two.
The Clintons and Bidens arrived without actively greeting the other dignitaries, with Hillary Clinton displaying an “incredulous” facial expression. Constantine noted that people usually act differently at funerals and greet everyone, regardless of past differences.
A forensic lip reader indicated that Trump told Obama they should find a “quiet place” soon to discuss “a matter of importance.” This sparked a different tone between the two men, who have exchanged jabs in the past. Obama had previously joked about Trump’s private parts and compared his speeches to Fidel Castro’s rambling diatribes.
Overall, the interactions at Carter’s funeral showed a mix of tension, respect, and camaraderie among the political figures in attendance. The moments captured by Constantine shed light on the dynamics between the former and current presidents, as well as other notable attendees.
