Have Sex and the City fans stooped too low? Iconic NYC brownstone, and stoop, to be gated off

Carrie Bradshaw’s iconic New York City brownstone is much more than just an apartment for fans of Sex and the City. It’s where she wrote her columns, stored her Jimmy Choos, and experienced some of the most memorable moments of the series. From proposals to breakups, the brownstone has seen it all.

However, the building’s owner, Barbara Lorber, has recently been dealing with the overwhelming presence of fans flocking to her stoop. The constant stream of visitors taking photos, making TikTok videos, and even defacing the property has become too much to handle. After years of hoping the fascination would die down, Lorber has decided to take action by applying for a gate to be installed in front of the building.

The stoop became famous after appearing in the third episode of Sex and the City, and soon became a popular stop on the show’s tours of New York City. Fans from all over the world have made pilgrimages to the brownstone to snap a photo on the iconic steps.

Author Candace Bushnell, who penned the book that inspired the series, never could have predicted the fan frenzy over the stoop. The rise of social media has only heightened the obsession with famous TV locations, leading to an influx of visitors to the building.

This isn’t the first time homeowners have had to deal with overzealous fans. In Albuquerque, fans of Breaking Bad would toss pizzas on a house’s roof in homage to a scene from the show. The homeowners eventually had to build a gate to prevent further incidents.

As fans continue to flock to Carrie Bradshaw’s brownstone, the debate over installing a gate rages on. While some understand the need for privacy, others feel that adding a gate would take away from the iconic nature of the building. As the saga unfolds, one thing is clear – Carrie’s stoop will always hold a special place in the hearts of Sex and the City fans.
