Hegseth says US will bolster defenses overseas to support Indo-Pacific allies against China
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth delivered a powerful message to allies in the Indo-Pacific region, reassuring them that the United States stands ready to support them against the growing military and economic threats posed by China. Despite Hegseth’s strong stance on China, the European Union’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, pushed back against his comments about European countries focusing on regional defense while the U.S. focuses on the Indo-Pacific. Kallas emphasized the interconnected nature of global security, pointing to the involvement of North Korean troops in Russia and China’s support for Moscow.
