Heroic bystanders stop attempted abduction of woman, small kids in Florida
A group of brave Good Samaritans are being hailed as heroes after coming to the rescue of a woman and her two young children in a terrifying situation outside a Department of Motor Vehicles office in Jacksonville, Florida. The incident occurred on March 12 in the parking lot of the DMV on North Main Street.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO), witnesses observed a man trying to drive away in an SUV while a woman was desperately attempting to remove her 2-year-old and 6-month-old children from the back seat. The man, identified as 26-year-old Yanni Human, was driving off against the woman’s will, dragging her and one of the children through the parking lot.
In a remarkable turn of events, more than a dozen courageous bystanders sprang into action, intervening in the dangerous situation and potentially preventing serious injuries or worse for the mother and her children. Without hesitation, they managed to pull the woman and children to safety as the vehicle continued moving. The man fled the scene, but witnesses provided a detailed description and the SUV’s license plate number to 911 dispatchers.
JSO’s District 6 Task Force officers used this information, along with surveillance footage, to track down and arrest Human later that day at a nearby shopping center. He now faces multiple felony charges, including child abuse and false imprisonment, as well as charges for battery, marijuana possession, and resisting an officer without violence.
Authorities commend the quick thinking and bravery of the bystanders for preventing a potential tragedy. The JSO expressed gratitude for the Good Samaritans’ swift action and assistance in bringing the suspect to justice. While the Sheriff’s Office has not disclosed the identities of those involved, the community is praising their heroic actions.
