RCMP notifies residents in Pictou County that a high-risk sex offender from Ontario is being relocated to Pictou County.

In a statement released Friday, the Mounties say Michael Russell has been released after serving his full term in office and plans to take up residence in the Scotsburn area.

He was convicted of sexual interference in 2020 and sentenced to nearly three and a half years in prison.

He is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, 225 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair.

Police say Russell has orders to stay away from daycare centers, school grounds, playgrounds, community centers, public parks and public swimming areas.

He is also not allowed to contact or communicate with anyone under the age of 16 unless supervised by “an appropriate person,” authorities say.

RCMP in Pictou County has also applied for a peace declaration to impose broader restrictions on Russell’s movements.
