HMCS William Hall goes to the North Pole area for security operation

HMCS William Hall Sets Sail for Arctic Operation Nanook

The HMCS William Hall, based in Halifax, has embarked on a crucial mission to the Arctic region to participate in Operation Nanook. This two-month expedition will involve collaboration with forces from Denmark, France, and Germany, along with other Canadian military assets.

As part of Operation Nanook, HMCS William Hall will navigate through the Northwest Passage and make a stop in Rankin Inlet, NVT to enhance Canada’s presence in the north.

This annual operation spans Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Labrador, with up to five iterations throughout the year. Surveillance in the northern region and cooperation with allies are key objectives of the mission.

Operation Nanook, which first commenced in 2007, plays a vital role in strengthening the Canadian Armed Forces’ knowledge of the Arctic region and fostering partnerships with Arctic nations and allies.

Commissioned in May last year as part of the Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessel Program, HMCS William Hall is a testament to Canada’s commitment to safeguarding its northern territories.
