Canada’s Rachel Homan Secures Victory Over Sweden at World Women’s Curling Championship
Canada’s Rachel Homan emerged victorious in a thrilling match against Sweden’s Anna Hasselborg at the world women’s curling championship. In a nail-biting 10th end, Homan made a draw for a single point, securing a 9-7 win. The Ottawa native now boasts a 2-1 record in the round-robin stage of the competition, which is taking place at Uijeongbu Arena in South Korea.
Hasselborg, also with a 2-1 record, put up a tough fight, scoring three points in the eighth end and managing to steal a point in the ninth. However, she was unable to catch up to Homan’s lead. The Canadian team, comprised of Tracy Fleury, Emma Miskew, and Sarah Wilkes, will face off against Denmark’s Madeleine Dupont in their next match scheduled for Monday.
The world women’s curling championship will continue through March 23, with teams from around the globe competing for the prestigious title. Homan, who clinched gold at last year’s championship in Sydney, N.S., is looking to defend her title and make Canada proud once again.
