House Freedom Caucus calls Trump’s budget proposal ‘a paradigm shift’

President Donald Trump’s budget proposal has been met with praise from members of the House Freedom Caucus, who described it as “a paradigm shift” in a recent statement. The conservative group expressed support for the president’s plan, which aims to decrease non-defense discretionary spending while increasing funding for defense.

Trump’s budget outlines a base non-defense discretionary budget authority of $163 billion, a 22.6 percent decrease from current-year spending. Despite the cuts, funding for homeland security, veterans, seniors, law enforcement, and infrastructure will be protected. The president is also proposing a 13 percent increase in defense spending, totaling $1.01 trillion for fiscal year 2026. Additionally, a historic $175 billion investment will be allocated to homeland security to fully secure the border.

Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought explained that a portion of these increases, at least $325 billion, will be provided through reconciliation to ensure that the military and other agencies have the resources needed to fulfill their missions. The budget proposal aims to pass MAGA Republican priorities with Republican votes, ending Democrats’ leverage in appropriations.

Members of the House Freedom Caucus, including Rep. Chip Roy, Rep. Andy Ogles, and Rep. Barry Moore, have voiced their support for Trump’s budget proposal. Roy commended the realignment of federal spending to prioritize national security, public health, and law enforcement. Ogles referred to the budget as a “game-changing” move that aligns with Republican values of fiscal responsibility and limited government.

Overall, the House Freedom Caucus sees Trump’s budget as a bold step towards prosperity, freedom, and strength for the American people. With a focus on securing the homeland, cutting government waste, and reforming entitlement programs, the caucus believes that the president’s proposal reflects the priorities that Republicans were elected to deliver.
