House Oversight Committee deadline looms for Biden aides in autopen probe

Today marks the deadline for President Joe Biden’s former White House physician and four aides to respond to interview requests from the House Oversight Committee. Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, is demanding that key staffers from Biden’s administration appear for transcribed interviews regarding their suspected involvement in covering up the former president’s mental decline during his term.

The four aides who have been requested to testify include former director of the Domestic Policy Council Neera Tanden, former assistant to the President and Deputy Chief of Staff Annie Tomasini, former senior adviser to the first lady Anthony Bernal, and former deputy director of Oval Office operations Ashley Williams.

Lawyers for these individuals have made contact with the committee, but no interviews have been confirmed or scheduled as of yet. However, there has been no communication from Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Biden’s former physician, regarding the interview request. While the Bidens have chosen to remain silent on the matter, Jill Biden’s former press secretary has spoken out against the congressional probe.

Chairman Comer has stated that if the staffers fail to commit to the interviews by the end of the day, the committee is prepared to issue subpoenas immediately. He has specifically mentioned wanting to question the aides about their use of the autopen and who authorized them to sign documents on behalf of Joe Biden.

This latest development comes as part of a continued push by Republicans to investigate allegations of a cover-up regarding Biden’s mental decline during his time in office. Comer has been vocal in his pursuit of the truth, despite facing criticism from Biden allies who claim he is on a fishing expedition with no evidence to support his claims.
