House Oversight welcomes Trump DOJ investigation into alleged Biden autopen pardons

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, is continuing his investigation into the alleged cover-up of former President Joe Biden’s cognitive decline. The Trump administration has now backed up Comer’s efforts by launching its own probe into the pardons granted by the Biden White House. Specifically, they are looking into whether Biden was competent and if others were taking advantage of him through the use of autopen or other means.
Comer welcomed the DOJ’s investigation, stating that Americans demand transparency and accountability regarding who was truly calling the shots at the White House. The Kentucky Republican had previously launched a House Oversight Committee probe into the Biden administration, requesting appearances and information from five former senior Biden aides, including his physician Kevin O’Connor.
While lawyers for the former staffers have been in communication with the committee, Comer has not ruled out compelling their appearance if necessary. The House Oversight Committee is focused on investigating the cover-up of Biden’s mental decline and will be speaking with a large group of former administration and campaign officials soon, under subpoena if needed.
The DOJ has declined to comment on the matter, but Republicans have been relentless in their scrutiny of the previous Democratic administration. Reports and concerns about Biden’s mental state while in office have resurfaced, with many questioning the lengths his closest aides went to in order to hide it from the public.
Biden’s mental acuity became a topic of conversation after his disastrous debate against Donald Trump in 2024. Since then, accounts of the former president misremembering allies or losing focus in meetings have circulated in the media. This has brought new scrutiny on the pardons he issued, including one for his son Hunter Biden, despite previously stating he would not do so.
In addition to facing scrutiny over his mental state, Biden is also battling stage 4 prostate cancer. Despite this, he remains optimistic and continues to carry out his duties as president. Comer’s probe, like that of the DOJ, is focused on Biden’s mental decline and the use of autopen for pardons and other executive actions.
