House Republican unveils 47-page roadmap to ‘Make America Healthy Again’

Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, recently released a comprehensive report titled “The Case for Healthcare Freedom,” which he believes will serve as a roadmap to “Make America Healthy Again.” The 47-page report delves into the flaws of the American healthcare system and highlights how it impacts national defense.

According to the report, U.S. healthcare spending soared to $4.9 trillion in 2023, accounting for 17.6% of the nation’s GDP. The report also indicates that healthcare costs are growing at a rate faster than the annual GDP. Roy argues that reversing these trends is critical for conservatives who value a strong national defense and low taxes.

Roy emphasizes the importance of empowering patients and healthcare providers through the promotion of expansive health savings accounts. He believes that giving more power and money to the same entities will not solve the healthcare crisis. Instead, he advocates for healthcare freedom as the key to controlling healthcare spending and improving the overall health of Americans.

The report comes on the heels of President Donald Trump’s second term inauguration, with a renewed focus on making America healthy again. Trump’s campaign promise was bolstered by the support of former presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who was tapped to lead the Department of Health and Human Services.

In addition to addressing the healthcare system, the report also criticizes the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for subsidizing junk food purchases. It also raises concerns about the high costs of weight loss and diabetes drugs, as well as the skyrocketing premiums under Obamacare.

The report highlights how the healthcare industry has become a dominant force in the American economy, with hospitals, drug wholesalers, health insurance companies, and pharmaceutical wholesalers ranking among the top revenue-generating industries. It also sheds light on the discrepancies between hospital cash prices and insurer-negotiated prices.

Roy’s report argues that the government controls more than 80% of health spending, stifling competition and driving up costs. He warns against proposals like “Medicare for All,” which would cost an additional $33 trillion over 10 years and leave 70% of Americans financially worse off.

In conclusion, Roy’s report provides a detailed analysis of America’s health crisis and offers solutions to address it. By embracing healthcare freedom and empowering patients and providers, Roy believes that Congress can make significant strides in improving the nation’s healthcare system.
