Houthi drones shot down by US forces after Trump launches ‘decisive’ airstrikes

The United States warships have successfully intercepted and shot down approximately a dozen Houthi drones following President Donald Trump’s launch of airstrikes against the terrorist group on Saturday. According to a senior defense official speaking to Fox News on Sunday, the drones were targeting the U.S. Navy’s Truman Carrier Strike Group but were neutralized well before they posed a significant threat.

This recent military action comes after enduring nearly a year and a half of relentless attacks from the Houthi rebels, targeting both commercial merchant vessels and U.S. military ships. In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump declared that he had authorized the U.S. Military to conduct decisive and robust military operations against the Houthi terrorists in Yemen.

Trump highlighted the economic toll and risk to innocent lives caused by the continuous assaults from the Houthis. He emphasized that it has been over a year since a U.S.-flagged commercial ship safely navigated through the Suez Canal, the Red Sea, or the Gulf of Aden, with the last American warship passing through the Red Sea being attacked by the Houthis multiple times four months ago.

The former President re-designated the Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO) in January, a move that was initially made during his first administration but later reversed by the Biden administration. On Sunday, the White House released images of Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and National Security Adviser Mike Waltz monitoring the airstrikes.

The White House emphasized that President Trump’s actions against the Houthis aim to protect U.S. shipping assets and deter terrorist threats. The administration stated that American economic and national interests have been continuously under attack by the Houthis for too long and that under President Trump’s leadership, such threats will not be tolerated.

In conclusion, the decisive military action taken against the Houthi rebels underscores the commitment of the United States to safeguard its interests and ensure the safety of its citizens and assets. The interception of the drones and the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region demonstrate a strong stance against threats to national security.
