HUD Secretary creates DOGE Task Force

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner recently announced the formation of a new Department of Government Efficiency task force with the goal of eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse within the federal agency. This task force, known as DOGE, has already recovered $1.9 billion in HUD funds that were misplaced during the Biden administration. These funds, originally earmarked for the administration of financial services but no longer needed, have now been released for use by the U.S. Department of Treasury.

In response to President Donald Trump’s executive order to maximize governmental efficiency and productivity, Secretary Turner established the HUD DOGE Task Force to review how taxpayer money is being spent. The task force is led by HUD employees and aims to maximize budget efficiency, with findings being reported directly to Turner.

HUD is responsible for national housing policy and urban development, overseeing programs such as affordable housing initiatives, community development, fair housing enforcement, homelessness services, and more. The DOGE Task Force has already identified over $260 million in savings, with ongoing efforts to further reduce wasteful spending.

In collaboration with the DOGE initiative, other government agencies are also taking steps to cut unnecessary expenditures. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lee Zeldin recently canceled a $50 million environmental justice grant, citing concerns about the recipient organization’s political affiliations. Additionally, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has committed to working with DOGE to address wasteful spending within the Department of Defense.

As various agencies across the government work to streamline operations and maximize efficiency, the DOGE Task Force remains dedicated to identifying and eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse to better serve the American people. With a focus on accountability and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars, these efforts aim to ensure that government resources are used effectively to benefit communities nationwide.
