Hurricane Erin expected to bring wind, strong waves to Atlantic provinces

Hurricane Erin to Bring Wind and Strong Waves to Atlantic Region

Although Hurricane Erin is currently a Category 3 storm, it is expected to stay offshore and not bring any significant rainfall to the Atlantic region over the next few days. The storm is forecasted to curve northward in the coming days, with good agreement among forecasting models that it will track south of the Maritimes and Newfoundland this weekend.

CBC meteorologist Ryan Snoddon has noted that while the storm may be well to the south, Atlantic Canada could still feel its effects as it passes through the region. Erin is expected to increase in size over the next few days, becoming very large as it moves through the area.

For residents of the southern Maritimes and southeastern Newfoundland, gusty northeasterly winds are predicted for Friday and Saturday. The Atlantic coastline of Nova Scotia and the southeast coast of Newfoundland may also experience pounding waves during this time, along with the potential for dangerous rip currents.
