‘I had none’: Jasmine Crockett says she had no concerns about Biden mental acuity

Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, recently defended former President Joe Biden’s mental acuity, asserting that she had zero concerns about his cognitive abilities while he was in office. Crockett, who was the only other lawmaker present besides House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer, R-Ky., in a closed-door interview with former White House physician Kevin O’Connor, attributed Biden’s verbal gaffes to his stutter and even raised questions about former President Donald Trump’s mental faculties.
In a statement to reporters following the interview, Crockett emphasized that she never doubted Biden’s mental fitness during his time in the White House. Despite not seeing Biden every day, she maintained that her interactions with the president did not raise any red flags regarding his cognitive capabilities.
Acknowledging Biden’s age, Crockett pointed out that the 80-something-year-old version of Biden may differ from his younger self, but she emphasized that his ability to comprehend his surroundings and the issues at hand remained intact. She highlighted Biden’s lifelong struggle with a stutter and the tools he had developed to overcome it, suggesting that age had not compromised his mental sharpness.
Crockett also contrasted Biden’s foreign policy acumen with Trump’s, emphasizing Biden’s command of the subject matter. She criticized Trump’s foreign policy decisions, accusing him of cozying up to enemies and neglecting allies, which she deemed concerning and dangerous for the American people.
During O’Connor’s deposition, Crockett accused Comer of misrepresenting the doctor’s decision to plead the Fifth Amendment. She underscored the importance of having a Democratic presence in the room to prevent cherry-picking and ensure a balanced narrative.
Comer, on the other hand, condemned O’Connor’s decision to invoke the Fifth Amendment, as the committee investigates allegations of a cover-up of Biden’s declining mental health by his former top aides.
As the investigation unfolds, Crockett’s defense of Biden’s mental acuity adds a new perspective to the discourse surrounding the former president’s cognitive abilities. Her assertion that Biden’s stutter and age-related changes did not impede his understanding of crucial issues underscores the complexity of evaluating a leader’s mental fitness.
