I left my life as a doctor in Nigeria to find a better future for my children in Canada

the warm climate we were used to in Nigeria. But we embraced the change, learning to ski and ice skate, enjoying winter sports we had never experienced before.

Despite the challenges and adjustments, the move to Canada has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. My children now have opportunities they could only dream of in Nigeria. They are excelling in school, making friends, and thriving in a country that values diversity and inclusion.

As for me, I have found a sense of fulfillment in practising medicine in Canada. The healthcare system here is different, but the core values of compassion, empathy, and patient-centered care remain the same. I am grateful for the opportunity to continue my passion for helping others in a new and welcoming environment.

Looking back on the journey from Nigeria to Canada, I am filled with gratitude for the support of my husband, my colleagues, and the community that welcomed us with open arms. The road was long and challenging, but every obstacle was worth it to give my children a brighter future.

As I reflect on my experience as an immigrant in Canada, I am reminded of the resilience and determination of those who choose to start anew in a foreign land. It is not easy to leave behind everything you know and love, but the promise of a better future for yourself and your children is a powerful motivator.

I am proud to call Canada my home now, grateful for the opportunities it has provided me and my family. And as I continue to practise medicine and contribute to the healthcare system in this country, I am reminded of the journey that brought me here and the hope that guided me along the way.
