ICE breaks records of arrests, deportations during Trump’s first 100 days

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been making significant strides in enforcing immigration laws during President Donald Trump’s second term. In the first 100 days, ICE arrested over 66,000 illegal immigrants and removed more than 65,000 individuals. The agency’s efforts have focused on targeting those who pose a threat to public safety and national security.

According to a news release from ICE, three out of four arrests of illegal immigrants involved individuals accused of committing crimes. ICE Acting Director Todd M. Lyons emphasized the agency’s commitment to protecting communities from dangerous individuals. The agency has also made significant progress in targeting gang members, with over 2,200 gang members from organizations such as Tren de Aragua and MS-13 being arrested.

In addition to gang members, ICE has also apprehended individuals accused or convicted of sex offenses and murder. The agency’s crackdown on criminal activity has resulted in the arrests of thousands of individuals with convictions for assaults, DWIs, DUIs, and weapon offenses. ICE has also worked closely with state and local law enforcement agencies through the 287(g) Program to enhance immigration enforcement efforts.

Since Jan. 20, there have been 444 new 287(g) agreements nationwide, demonstrating the effectiveness of collaboration between federal, state, and local agencies. ICE has also focused on worksite operations to target businesses that hire illegal employees. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) has arrested over 1,000 illegal workers and proposed fines against businesses that violate immigration laws.

ICE’s efforts have led to a significant decrease in illegal immigrant encounters and crossings, with a 95% decrease in encounters and a 99% decrease in individuals evading enforcement officers. The agency has also seen a 655% spike in the arrests of suspected terrorists. The construction of an additional 85 miles of new border barriers has further strengthened border security.
