Illegal immigrant charged with murder of Maryland mom days after Van Hollen’s El Salvador return

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has made a significant arrest in Maryland, charging an illegal immigrant with the murder of a mother in the state. Keycy Robinson Alexis Barrera-Rosa, a 23-year-old Guatemalan national, was arrested on April 5 in Charles County and later charged on April 23 after the body of Lesbia Mileth Ramirez Guerra was discovered buried near a state forest in LaPlata.
ICE has stated that Barrera-Rosa will be “fully prosecuted” for the alleged murder, emphasizing the seriousness of the crime. This arrest comes just days after Senator Chris Van Hollen, a Democrat from Maryland, returned from a high-profile visit to El Salvador in an attempt to retrieve a deported alleged MS-13 member, Kilmar Garcia. Despite the recent arrest and charges, Senator Van Hollen has not commented publicly on the news regarding Guerra. However, he has previously spoken out against illegal immigrant crime, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing the detention of violent offenders to keep communities safe.
The arrest of Barrera-Rosa is part of a larger trend of illegal immigrant crime in Maryland. Just recently, Victor Martinez-Hernandez was found guilty of killing Rachel Morin on the Ma & Pa Trail in Bel Air. Additionally, ICE arrested Guatemalan national Rene Pop-Chub in Hyattsville, Maryland, for pending murder, assault, and reckless endangerment charges. The case of Madai Gamaliel Amaya, a Honduran national and previous deportee arrested by ICE in Montgomery Village, highlights the ongoing efforts to address noncitizen sex offenders in the state.
Despite these high-profile cases, Governor Wes Moore has emphasized that Maryland has seen significant drops in violent crimes, attributing this to the hard work of law enforcement officials and federal partners. Moore highlighted the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their crimes, regardless of immigration status, in order to keep Marylanders safe.
The cases of illegal immigrant crime in Maryland have sparked controversy and criticism, with Senator Van Hollen and House Democrats facing backlash from the GOP for their efforts to aid individuals like Kilmar Garcia. The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) launched a faux tourism ad mocking the Democrats’ trip to El Salvador, suggesting they should make their visit to hang out with MS-13 gang members a one-way trip.
In response to these developments, Fox News Digital reached out to Senator Van Hollen, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and ICE for comment but did not receive an immediate response. The ongoing efforts to address illegal immigrant crime in Maryland underscore the complex challenges and debates surrounding immigration enforcement and public safety in the state.
