Impaired driving charges dropped against former Halifax Mooseheads star

The Halifax Mooseheads’ career points leader, Jordan Dumais, can breathe a sigh of relief as charges against him were dropped on Friday. The Crown offered no evidence at trial, leading to the dismissal of the case. Dumais, who last played for the Mooseheads a year ago, was charged after being pulled over by police in downtown Halifax in the early hours of March 1, 2024.
The Crown’s case took a hit when the investigating officer failed to attend court, prompting them to offer no evidence. “As a result, the Crown determined that he could not proceed without the officer’s testimony and offered no evidence,” said Public Prosecution Service spokesperson Melissa Noonan.
Dumais, a 21-year-old from the Montreal area, was suspended from the Mooseheads for five games when the charge was initially filed. His defense lawyer, Stan MacDonald, entered a not-guilty plea on Dumais’ behalf last July. Unfortunately, MacDonald could not be reached for further comment on the matter.
Dumais, a third-round pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2022, has had a successful career so far. He represented Team Canada at the 2024 world juniors in Sweden before undergoing abdominal surgery in Columbus, Ohio, after the tournament. This season, he played for the Cleveland Monsters in the American Hockey League, tallying four goals and seven assists in 21 games for the Blue Jackets’ farm team.
In November 2023, Dumais made history by breaking the Mooseheads’ franchise point record. He concluded his four seasons with the Mooseheads with an impressive 325 points, solidifying his legacy as one of the team’s all-time greats. Despite the legal troubles he faced, Dumais can now focus on his promising hockey career without the burden of pending charges.
