In Calgary courts: One of two murder suspects charged in connection with the disappearance of a Calgary man seeking bail

Suspect in death of Calgary woman seeks bail
A suspect charged in connection with the death of a Calgary woman is seeking bail as he awaits trial, a Calgary court heard recently. Shaun Alexander Folk, one of the two suspects charged with murder in the disappearance of Christopher Stevenson in August 2023, appeared before Justice Allison Kuntz to request his release pending trial in fall 2026.
Folk, 48, is facing a second-degree murder charge in connection with Stevenson’s disappearance. Alongside him, two other Calgary residents, Kenedee Christine Taylor and Samir El-Sayed, have also been charged in the case. Taylor is facing a charge of second-degree murder, while El-Sayed is accused of being an accessory after the fact.
The Crown has filed a direct indictment, sending all three suspects to trial in late September 2026. While Taylor and El-Sayed remain in custody, Folk is seeking bail.
Stevenson was last seen on August 24, 2023, and police later concluded that he had been the victim of foul play. Folk, who was on conditional release from a previous prison term at the time of Stevenson’s disappearance, was arrested by Calgary police a year later.
Justice Kuntz will make a decision on Folk’s bail application on September 19.
Alleged Stampede Park stabber seeks bail
In a separate case, a Calgary man charged with three counts of aggravated assault in connection with a stabbing incident at the Stampede grounds is seeking bail. Irfan Mohammadi, 18, appeared in court via video link from the Calgary Remand Centre as his lawyer, Craig Leggatt, requested an expedited bail hearing.
The incident, which occurred on July 8 near the Euroslide attraction at the Stampede midway, left one man in life-threatening condition. Mohammadi was arrested shortly after the incident following a search warrant at a residence.
Leggatt asked the court to schedule Mohammadi’s bail hearing sooner than the proposed date, and discussions are ongoing to determine a suitable timeline for the hearing.
Man charged with murdering ex-girlfriend remains without lawyer
In another case, the suspect in the fatal shooting of Madisson Cobb in a Calgary parkade in July is still without legal representation. Devon Bradley Malik, who is facing a charge of first-degree murder, appeared in court as Duty Counsel Joe Nahman requested an adjournment to allow Malik to find a lawyer.
Cobb, 23, was fatally shot in the parkade off Macleod Trail S.W., where she worked at a LASIK MD clinic. Malik, who was under a court order not to have contact with Cobb, is also facing two outstanding charges of criminal harassment.
Malik is due back in court later this month, at which time he is expected to have legal representation.
Suspect in death of city woman last November wishes to seek bail
Meanwhile, Nehemiah Walter John Oslund, recently charged in the death of Jelisa Maschki, who was found critically injured along a northeast pathway last December, wishes to seek bail. Oslund, 29, appeared in court via video link and has adjourned his case to allow him to secure legal representation.
Maschki’s death was declared a homicide on December 18, with evidence suggesting her injuries stemmed from an altercation along the pathway. Oslund, who did not know Maschki, was recently taken into custody in Cranbrook and is awaiting transportation to Calgary.
