India targets Pakistani military bases with missile strikes, officials say

Pakistan’s armed forces retaliated against India by targeting military sites after India fired missiles at three of its air bases, escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors. The strike comes after India targeted the air bases inside Pakistan with missiles, most of which were intercepted by Pakistani military officials.
The latest escalation between the two countries was triggered by a mass shooting that India has blamed Pakistan for. In response, Pakistani army spokesman Lt. Gen. Ahmad Sharif confirmed that the country’s air force assets were safe. He also mentioned that some of the Indian missiles had hit India’s eastern Punjab, although there was no immediate comment from India.
“This is a provocation of the highest order,” Sharif stated during a televised address, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation. The missiles reportedly targeted Nur Khan air base in Rawalpindi, Murid air base in Chakwal city, and Rafiqui air base in the Jhang district of eastern Punjab province. Sharif also mentioned that some of the missiles landed in Afghanistan.
In a shocking revelation, Sharif disclosed that India had fired six ballistic missiles from Adampur, with one hitting Adampur and the remaining five striking the Indian Punjab area of Amritsar. This aggressive move by India has further heightened tensions between the two nations.
Earlier in the week, Pakistan shot down over two dozen drones, showcasing its military capabilities amidst the escalating conflict. The fraught relationship between India and Pakistan hit a new low following an attack in India-controlled Kashmir that resulted in the death of 26 people, most of whom were Hindu tourists. India has accused Pakistan of involvement in the attack, a claim that Pakistan vehemently denies.
As the situation intensifies, the international community is closely monitoring the developments between the two neighboring nations. The need for immediate de-escalation and diplomatic intervention is crucial to prevent further escalation of hostilities.
