Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark’s stalker charged

55-Year-Old Texas Man Charged with Felony Stalking of WNBA Star Caitlin Clark

Indianapolis authorities have recently charged Michael Thomas Lewis, a 55-year-old man from Texas, with felony stalking of Indiana Fever star and WNBA rookie of the year, Caitlin Clark. The charges stem from Lewis’ alleged harassment of the 22-year-old Clark, which began on Dec. 16. He is set to appear in court on Tuesday, according to jail records.

The Marion County prosecutor’s office stated in a court filing that Lewis engaged in repeated and continuous harassment of Clark, including posting numerous messages on her X account. In these messages, Lewis claimed to have been driving by Gainbridge Fieldhouse, where the Fever plays home games, multiple times a day. Some of the messages were sexually explicit in nature, causing Clark to feel terrorized and threatened.

An affidavit from a Marion County sheriff’s lieutenant revealed that Lewis’ messages were traced back to IP addresses at an Indianapolis hotel and downtown public library. When questioned by Indianapolis police on Jan. 8, Lewis admitted to fantasizing about being in a relationship with Clark but denied any malicious intent.

Prosecutors are seeking a higher than standard bond for Lewis, citing his travel from Texas to Indianapolis with the intent to be in close proximity to the victim. They have also requested a stay-away order, barring Lewis from the Gainbridge and Hinkle fieldhouses where the Fever play their home games.

Caitlin Clark, named the Female Athlete of the Year for 2024 by The Associated Press, rose to prominence after leading Iowa to the national championship game and being selected as the top pick in the WNBA draft. She subsequently earned rookie of the year honors in the league.
