Interfere with ICE and you will ‘face consequences,’ Trump DHS official warns

The Department of Homeland Security has issued a stern warning to potential disrupters, urging them to refrain from interfering with federal immigration enforcement operations. This caution comes in the wake of a recent incident in New York City, where a demonstrator attempted to disrupt a federal immigration arrest.
According to Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin, ICE agents sought assistance from the Federal Protective Service (FPS) as they were conducting arrests in the lobby of a federal immigration court building. FPS officers arrived on the scene to find several protesters filming and taking pictures of law enforcement personnel. The situation escalated when an individual attempted to forcibly interfere with ICE agents in the process of making an arrest.
McLaughlin reported that ICE classified the incident as an assault on one of their officers and the individual responsible was briefly detained, issued a U.S. district court violation notice, and subsequently released. She emphasized that anyone who obstructs law enforcement officers in the performance of their duties will face consequences, including potential arrest.
Later that same day, nearly two dozen anti-ICE protesters were detained by the New York Police Department outside a federal building in Manhattan. The protest turned chaotic, leading to a confrontation between police officers and demonstrators. Responding to a 911 call for a disorderly group, NYPD officers found a large group of protesters blocking vehicular traffic. Despite repeated instructions to clear the roadway, the demonstrators did not comply, resulting in the arrest of 23 individuals.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons expressed concern over the increasing number of assaults against ICE officers, noting a 400% rise compared to the previous year. He attributed part of this increase to politicians who engage in politically motivated rhetoric that can incite violence.
It is essential to respect the rule of law and allow law enforcement officers to carry out their duties without interference. The safety and security of our communities depend on upholding the law and ensuring that everyone is held accountable for their actions. Let us strive for a peaceful and lawful society where justice prevails.
