Into the ring: Trump education chief pick McMahon to testify on cutting ‘red tape’ amid DOGE sweeps

Linda McMahon, the former CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and President Donald Trump’s pick to head the Department of Education, is set to testify before the Senate on Thursday. McMahon’s opening remarks will focus on creating “a better future for every American learner.”

The Trump nominee, who was nominated in November, will begin her confirmation process at a hearing before the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee on Thursday morning. Republican Sens. Tim Scott of South Carolina and Katie Britt of Alabama will introduce McMahon before the hearing.

In her opening remarks, McMahon will emphasize enacting Trump’s vision for education, stating that “education is the issue that determines our national success and prepares American workers to win the future.” She will express gratitude to President Trump for his confidence in her to lead a Department focused on improving American education and providing school choice options.

McMahon’s nomination comes at a time when Trump has suggested dismantling the Department of Education, stating that if McMahon is confirmed, he wants her to “put herself out of a job.” Trump’s comments reflect his desire to prioritize efficiency and effectiveness in education.

McMahon, who previously served as the administrator of the Small Business Administration during Trump’s first term, plans to draw on her experience as a business owner, public servant, and college trustee to prioritize the needs of parents, teachers, and students over bureaucracy. She will advocate for school choice as a means of empowering teachers and parents to make educational decisions free from government interference.

Additionally, McMahon will address important issues such as antisemitism in schools and the participation of biological males in women’s and girls’ sports. She is committed to protecting the rights of all students and ensuring that parents have a say in the moral education of their children.

If confirmed, McMahon will work to address the challenges facing the education system and create opportunities for improvement. Her background in business and public service equips her to lead the Department of Education with a focus on innovation and student success.

After the confirmation hearing, the committee will vote on whether to advance McMahon’s nomination to a full floor vote. President Trump has expressed confidence in McMahon’s ability to lead the Department of Education and implement his vision for improving education in America.
